Btw I wanted to ask if it is necessary to use an adapter of Rotor for their crank or I can use any adapter which fit my bb86 shell?
I.e I am using now the adapter of Shimano inside my bottom bracket (86.5mm shell width on 41mm dimeter), that means I can't use neither the 24mm axle of Rotor nor the 30mm with this adapter?

The Rotor 3D with 24mm diameter axle should work just fine with the Shimano BB86 cups but the 3D+ will require Rotor's Press fit 4130mm BB86 converter bearings which are specific to the BB86 BB shell.WasFab wrote:that means I can't use neither the 24mm axle of Rotor nor the 30mm with this adapter?

No need to quote above
What you have mentioned regarding Rotor press fit adapter 4130 for the 3D+ for the BB86 shell is what also known as BB83? As I understood the 86 and the 83 is the same exact system? My system works with Shimano press fit cups of 41mm ID and 86.5mm shell width.

Actually, I would say Rotor's Press fit 4130 is an 'adapter'. It is just another bottom bracket specific for a certain BB shell and crank (spindle) combination.
If you have a frame with BB86 shell (41mm diameter x 86,5mm width; Scott, Giant, etc) and want to use a Rotor 3DF/3D+ crank, you use the Rotor 4130 bottom bracket cups. Wheter other 30mm cranks are usable with these cups needs to be measured and tested.

Right, regardless of spindle length, Cannondale Hollowgram cranks Will Not Work. Zipp Vuma Quads or any cranks with 30mm diameter spindles that conform to Cervelo's BBRight or FSA's BB386 standard will work with Rotor's 4130 adapters on frames with a BB86 bottom bracket shell.Omiar wrote:Whether other 30mm cranks are usable with these cups needs to be measured and tested.

My new frame is due anytime soon and its my dream build without going overboard
I've toyed with all 3 versions and most people say there as good as each other very stiff and being a Q ring fan (converted after 1000 miles use, with better cadence by nearly 8-9 rpm and better leg recovery)
from my point of view 3d is 24mm I've got a BB30 so I'm going to run the proper crank for the BB 3DF or 3D+ there's like grams in it but its a once in a lift time purchase for me extra £70 it can move to my new bike and its the lightest available.
so buy the best you can or afford, I'd hate to be thinking i'd bought a lesser product but as said its very close between 3df & 3d+ for me
keep us informed on what you go for
oh yes I'd add - 3d+ £295 and 3df £240 is my best price so far - rings 110bcd 34-50 £145 can you do better i'll buy

Hello,
Sorry to revive an old thread. I have question about the use of rotor 3d+ (30mm spindle) in BB86 Scott Foil. My impression is that to use 30 mm with BB86 is that you have to use Rotor BB4130, but when my LBS installed my rotor 3d+. It seems they use Raceface cinch BB92 30 mm. Whats the different between those 2 ? or are they the same thing ?
