A light bike doesn't replace good fitness.

Its hard loose fat without loosing muscles and performance...

Not without HGH, synthetic T3 and IGF which is what I imagine riders ( like a certain German ) might have used a couple of years ago when they lost weight incredibly quickly without losing fitness!

Well, had my first DEXA today.

Not exactly in full competition mode, kind of 'off season' here. Came in at 8.6%.

Which when all the other boys who had it done came in under 6%, had me regretting the cookie I just had :(

Its easy to loose weight and fat with paleo diet. With some high carb breakfasts. At least for me.

Body fat isn't a bad thing... Seriously.
You can actually become hypo-gonadal when your body fat gets too low... and that wouldn't be very helpful for maintaining muscle mass and recovery.
7-12% is lean... and if you train well... probably a very efficient weight.

I think using BF% as a metric to determine how "pro" you are is a terrible idea.... watts/kg makes far more sense.

When I'm in shape I'm at 8-10% and I am far from pro. Pros at 4%-5% thats where they are at with some exceptions: sprinters, TT specialists, some that retain body fat genetically like for example Danielson, Petacchi, Haussler. Although body fat is party a genetic thing it really has little to do with performance providing you are eating right and exercising at the right intensity.
I never took drugs to improve my performance at any time. I will be willing to stick my finger into a polygraph test if anyone with big media pull wants to take issue. If you buy a signed poster now it will not be tarnished later. --Graeme Obree

the naked eye has a hard time distinguishing bodyfat from stored water. I have the later issue sometimes.

I've had 2 DEXA scans thus far while dieting. So far it reports ~10lbs of fat loss and 2 lbs of muscle gain bringing me to 163lb. No advice on how to stop the muscle gain so I'm assuming its a good thing.

Don't take me too seriously. The only person that doesn't hate Froome.

I used to know a guy who was into bodybuilding, towards the end of his weight-drop periods he said that "certain things stopped working" and "All interest in women disappeared". The really low bodyfat percentages that you see in for instance bodybuilding competitions and in magazines are not intended to be long term, they are intended for a few days at the most.
You need some fat for hormones to work. Fat is also an excellent fuel, but if you have very little fat, the fat cells won't release enough fat as fuel and you will start using other tissue like muscle (or worse organs) as fuel.

And round here, riding a bike (regardless of what my body fat % is doing to my adrenal system) is enough to ensure girls beating a path to your door is never a concern.
