Dropped the frame off today. Decided to go with a matte-black powder coat. I know, not very exciting. But it's what my son wanted... black bike with red components. Still waiting on a few small parts to arrive, but I'll have the frame back Wednesday and will begin assembly then.

That is awesome. I love building bikes with and for my son as well. We are currently building up an old Specialized Rockhopper for him even though he is only 7 years old now. I will ride it for fun until he fits it. Having issues getting the Avid BB5 brake to work well.

He also loves the black bikes and we are currently blacking out my Mazda 3 as well to match the bikes. YES blacked out car with blacked out bikes is a must.

My son decided on a black/red theme for the bike. So he also decided on the 2nd lightest wheelset I built. A pair of 1288g clinchers based on the Kinlin XR200 rims and Bikehubstore.com Ultralight Carbon Straightpull hubs ( http://www.bikehubstore.com/UltraLight-Carbon-Straight-Pull-Rear-Hub-p/sp197r.htm ). I used Sapim CX-ray spokes and alloy nipples with Veloplugs. Finished the wheels with matching ti skewers, Michelin A1 latex tubes, Vittoria Open Corsa CX tires, and a Shimano Ultegra 15-27 junior cassette.

I need to post some photos...

Frame is ready. If I can get off work early enough I'll pick it up this evening and post photos. otherwise, I'll have to wait until Friday.

Just finished the build. Had to rush because we're headed to Belgium early in the morning for the first of the Spring Classics. As a result, I didn't get any weights or build photos. I will take some photos tomorrow and post them when I get back Sunday night. It looks pretty sweet for a kid's bike....

Well, the bike is 99% complete. My son rode it this weekend. A few small parts remain... grommets for the di2 wires, alloy bolts for tuning, saddle, and we need to work on his position. But otherwise it is fantastic. Only one issue... because we're using junior gears, the chain makes contact with the seatstay when in the tallest gear (14t). Removing the spacer behind the cassette resolves the problem, but then the rear derailleur can't "reach" the largest cog... even with the limit screw backed out all the way. Not an issue with a "normal" cassette, but it will be an issue when he is racing.
