The left one appears to be the <2009 Shimano where the shift cable still came out the hood side while the right one looks to be a later version
LOL Man did I get a good laugh out of this post! I post a picture of a pretty cyclist thinking most of the comments will be about how cute she is and SolidSnake asks the ultimate Shimano geek question! I love it ! My hat off to you. -;)
But to answer your question, I haven't a clue.
I'd buy you a beer if I could..

I did the opposite and googled for more images
Raced my club championships IP and scratch race Saturday. Was a good hitout for next weekends State Masters track championships.
On Sunday, I drove down to Gippsland to race the Latrobe CC Track Carnival. Didn't end up placing in any of the except the Kierin heat unfortunately, finishing in all the races other than the wheel race somewhere around 4-6th place. In the Wheel race as an out of towner I was given a handicap to start near the back off 30 metres - impossible for me to make up 400+m in a 4 lap screamer!
Made the final of the Keirin. Had good position in the final sitting third wheel, moved up onto the second wheels hip when the motorbike pulled off at one lap to go (track was just over 500m long) - and the idiot on the front swings up the track without looking and forced me up to the fence with him! Game over and very angry rolled over behind the rest. Asked him what the hell he was thinking and got back this track is that long it's like five laps to go... Moron nearly took out my front wheel and any chance of a good result!

Dalai: Do you know what frame it is on the right side?
sorry. left side.
Looking at the rest of the photos from the day, looks most likely a Giant Omnium.

I know nothing officer...
This is on my club racing / training bike. I do have it under the saddle on my Pursuit / A race bike.
Must say I never look at it when racing though. Any time I have my nose close enough to read is when I'm chewing the stem trying to hold the wheel in front, and on the rivet my vision is pretty blurry anyway. Plus knowing my power at that moment is irrelevant - either I hold the wheel or I'm off the back...

Yeah I can understand using it in a pursuit but for anything else the rule seems a bit silly. Imangine using it in a kieren. "Wow, I'm holding 500wa...arrrrrgh"

I've got the green and black bike. Came around the big yeti dude for second place. Think the guy on the far left won.
