I would go 9000 mechanical since you already have Sram now. The 2012 Red is awesome but if you want to spend money get something different than what you have.

If you go electric then save for 9070.

Chorus is hard to beat with the deals to be had from Ribble and Shinny bikes. Around $1000 shipped.

Well new SRAM Red is different than what you have. It's also the lightest of the groups mentioned so far.

Right now I have 50/34 and 26/12. Ive never ridden a non compact crank so I don't know much about gear ratios. I would say that I have never found myself needing an easier gear, I wouldn't mind a couple of them being closer together in that I like to have the exact gear for where I'm riding.

I realize the Udi2 is heavier, a lot I guess. Chorus for a grand is really good. I guess I'm not blown away by SRAM, it doesn't shift great, that's why the electro sounds so appealing and of course I would want eps but not for $5. Especially compared to Udi2 or SR for $2, or like you said chorus for 1

Changing a freehub isn't too big of a process is it? I haven't put in a cassette yet, not that that matters

I've swapped freehubs on Mavic and DT190 hubs -- no biggie (DT190 didn't even require any tools provided the end cap is is not wedged). Not sure about other hubs.

Ok I was looking at the chorus gruppo. It's a really good deal right now. The only thing I wonder, is it significantly better that what I have to make it worth the investment?

Better than Rival/Force. IMO its much better. If you like the shape of the hoods I think its significantly better and built with more quality than even RED.

Well, it's easy to be the lightest mechanical group mentioned when it's the lightest mechanical group outright.

That said, if you have SRAM goodies already, go for DA 9000. It's unbelievably gorgeous, and I don't think anybody's had a bad thing to say about it other than maybe price or weight.

If you want to go more budget, Chorus is just a slightly heavier Record for dirt cheap.

If you want an in-gruppo crank with BB30, you've gotta go SRAM. If that's a necessity and you really do care about weight, then Red's definitely the way to go. Pretty affordable, BB30 model, lightest group out there.

The reason SRAM hasn't "advanced" as quickly as the other two is they were forced to catch up. Now SRAM is forced to go to 11 cogs, a marginal improvement at best. SRAM had issues with front shifting (my first-gen Rival, with Stronglight rings, throws the chain on a regular basis) but those are generally considered to have been solved with the latest version.

Are you sure you have 12-26 and not 11-26? 12-26 is a nice range. 12-23 is even tighter. Or you could go 34-46 in the front, then with 11-23 you move into the tight range on the rear cassette. I like 34-46: better transition during front shifts.

My new bike is new Sram Red and I wish I went with older red Black edition. IMHO the diff between the new Red and older red is not worth extra $. My old Red (now on the rain and travel bike) is working perfectly (all Red with FSA cranks + PG-1070 cassette + KMC X10SL chain) - superb shifting. I started considering electronic. Ultimately I'd go campy but EPS is still not rock solid. I never was a Shimano guy but if I can get a great deal on 9070 I'll switch and later will consider either EPS or maybe whatever SRAM will come up with. I still love my Red but it's not the new Red.

If you don't think New Red is considerably better than Black, then you should know that Force is actually as good as or better than Black! The only difference between 2013 Force and Red Black is that Black is a very small bit lighter and has infinitely worse front shifting. Force got updated this year with ZeroLoss on the rear shifter, Black's chainrings, and ceramic pulleys--the only places where it was actually worse than Black. Black is kind of a crippled lamb right now and they'll probably put it out of its misery soon. For SRAM, the choices are new Red or Force, and Red's definitely got a few points going for it.

I've been very happy with Force was able to make the three changes from 2013 for under $200. The price jump from Force to Red is pretty steep, but the yaw FD, updated hoods, and chainrings are very nice and the brakes are absolutely killer. It's also hard to argue with the lightness.

Re Chorus; two and a half years, nothing done to it, only now is the front brake cable starting to fray. Beauty and reliability.
