I did a search, but seems like the standard fenders take 25 mm tires max, and then you have to go to 26'' MTB type fenders.

Can I see some examples of what you guys did with yours ?

I use SKS Raceblade fenders with 28mm Schwalbe Marathons (trekking tires) on my roadbike. Good fit, nothing bulky sticking out, the bungy type fasteners make it easy to adjust and remove and it's a light setup ( no actual weight right now )
I don't know if mine are the XL version, but I don't think so.

I'll see if I can put up a picture later. [edit: voila]

[edit: inner width of these fenders is <32mm, so I'm sure I've got the narrow version, as the wide one is for 25-34mm but as you can see, 28mm fits fine. Claimed weight is 225g for the pair, or 297g with the extra rubber mudguards, which I don't have]

I love you guys. Seriously.

I'm running these on my cyclocross/commuter/winter bike: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/sks-race-blade- ... guard-set/

They fit tires up to 35c and stay in place quite well, without adding much weight or requiring proper fender mounts.
