Hi guys I would like to build a set of wheels for v-brakes. Thus far I sourced second hang Hugi 240 Hubs- 95g and 257g. Now I am aware of some rims that come in at about 350 grams each but I would like to go 50 or so grams lower than do you have any suggestions? Also I want to use aerolite spokes with the aluminium nipples- 278g plus 20g. This set up would mean a total weight of approx. 1350g but I think I can go lower. Do you guys have any suggestions? Much appreciated.

The best (and pretty much only) rim brake rim still made is the DT swiss xr440. It is excellent. You may (but I doubt it) find a NOS stans v-brake rim out there somewhere, but it is highly unlikely in 26in format.

Don't think your weight target is very realistic, if you contrast that the not many road clincher rims are below 400g. Now 28" > 26" of course, but you want a bit more beef off the road.

I'm going to try a set of 36h A23s this season (in 650b). Do people think that's outrageous? Moderate XC type riding mostly, but you all know how it is when you discover a trail that's calling your name ...

The only V-break rim I could think of that comes under 350g is Sun Ringle Lime Light. They varied between 310-330g, but I doubt you will ever find a pair anywhere. Easier to find are Sun Ringle UFO but they vary from 360g-390g. Newest Sun Ringle Equalizer are smilar in weight.

I never actually have seen ZTR 355 rim at 350g or less. All in 360's-370's. Mine are 366g and 377g.

Fot your GT why not try to find older Mavic ceramic rims? Mine x-517 ceramic are right at 400g. Not the lightest, but perform much better.

You could always get lighter set of hubs, unless you want to keep the <2000 theme.

The Mavic 717 is a similar weight the XR440. The Dt rim is better. Remeber for XC riding the brake track is subject to more wear than a road rim will be so thicker braking surface is needed for durability. That is why those Sun rims are impossible to find. They wore out ages ago.

I have a set of American classic mtb 26 v brake wheels.
They are 1390 grams on my scales.

See if you can find a pair of these on eBay

I think your 240 hubs with DT Swiss XR440 rims with Laser/rev spokes and alloy nipples will be a low 1500's grams. That is light enough.
