For the sand take as wide as possible: Surly Knard 29 x 3" or Schwalbe Racing Ralph 29 x 2,35"

If it is just hard sand the whole way, something like a Furious Fred actually seems like a good idea.

@leugene - the Knard won't fit any production XC frame.

After talking to some guys who have done the race, including a former winner, I went with the Schwalbe Super Moto 29x2.35... running it tubeless.

I use continental sports contact. very very durable. but i'm using 26 x 1.3. am sure there's a 29 option.
