Did you tried them yet?

How is the shifting with these 52/36?

Shifting is much better than the Sram chainrings. The ramps really guide the chain well. Near instantaneous.

OK, please dont flame me if its been answered before, skimmed the 15 pages but just want to make sure of a few things before I buy them.

Got a Scott Addict 2009 with 7800 Duraace groupset with a english external BB. I need a new chainset so I am going to buy a 2012 Sram red 53x39, same ratios as my old chainset.

With it I want to buy a Hope bottom bracket with adapter to fit the GXP chainset.

Will it all be OK and will the Duraace front mech work with the new chainset?, I assume I dont need any addtional special tools to fit the chainset, I have a Shimano BB tool.

Links to what I am going to buy.....

Thanks and any other BB recomenations?

So new Sram Red 170 BB30 and Praxis 53/39 (I needed to file one of the mount tabs to make it fit the hidden bolt) weighed 512g (DS arm 177, NDS arm 178, lockring 4g, chainring bolts 9g, chainrings 111g and 33g).

Saved me 139g over a DA7950 (50/34) and another 39g as no longer need the wheels manufacturing pf30 adaptor :D

That looks sweet. minus the hidden fifth arm, the aesthetics remind me of the 7800C carbon cranks.

Stuartclark - thanks for posting those pictures, especially the spline pattern. Looks like Red and S900 arms are interchangeable. My left side S900 weighs in at 273 grams. Weight savings should be around 90 grams. If I can find a Red crankset for the right price...

Owen,
the spline patterns are the same but the offset is different- s900 series cranks use a longer spindle with arms that point almost straight front-to-back when the cranks are horizontal. The Red cranks use a shorter spindle with arms that are more diagonal.

Does anyone have any experience with Tune chainrings (preferably 50/34). Also, any views on using them with the new Red Exogram chain set?

i have 6600 shifters and FD, 7800 RD running 6700 chain/cassette. how will the shifting be putting on the new crank. or hows is the shifting in general with shimano shifters/derailleurs?

PS I know this has most likely already been discussed but I do not feel like reading 15+ pages to find my answer.

thanks

Didn't you notice a loss in shifting quality? That Praxis is a bit beefy, but I love that Fiberlyte weight number.

what are the best lightweight and no-so-expensive options for sram gxp english bottom brackets?? (best $/g if you will)

my standard sram bb comes in at 111g even without the plastic sleeve. :( seems to negate a lot of the weight reduction of the new sram crankset. I don't really need ceramic, but there's got to be something much lighter than the one i have for a reasonable price. i know i could spend $200 on a ceramic one, but i don't really have the funds for that.

I bought a Token TK877EX from Ebay (around $35 shipped) to go with my Exogram GXP. Make sure you get the version with Sram road washers. It weighs 91g without the central plastic tube. My crankset weighs 570g btw (175mm compact GXP with 50/34 stock rings). Haven't ridden the combination yet.

Just ordered my Sram Red 2012 Exogram GXP 50/34 172.5MM Cranks ($350 all in on the bay)

Might upgrade my bottom bracket at the same time, has anyone used the Ceramic BB's on the following link?:

http://www.fixcycles.co.uk/UNITi_Press_ ... 22399.aspx

I think it will fit my Scott CR1, good weight too 68g claimed is 23g lighter than what I have currently (and my existing BB is making some horrific noises at the mo!).
