Hi, new forum member from Westchester County, NY.

Just sold a 1996 Merckx MX Leader and bought this bike: 2008 Colnago Extreme Power, with full Campagnolo Record 10, Deda Zero100 stem/bars, Colnago seatpost, and Selle San Marco RegalE saddle.

Bars need to be swapped for Newton Shallows and dropped 1cm and needs proper shoes - the regular wheelset will be Record hubs with Ambrosio Nemesis rims and Vittoria tubs. Those are currently being glued, so shown with wheels off the commuter.

17.2 lbs as pictured. Bang on 5 lbs lighter than my MX Leader.

My other ride is a fillet-brazed Zanconato cross bike. 20 lbs on the nose.

Really nice! More pics when you get he finished off.

The question is, can you tell the difference in the 5 pounds?

You do favor Cadel a bit in that pic!

Big fan of colnago as I have one myself after lusting after them for 20 years.

I like yours a lot, looks very well balanced and I have the same wheels but in nemesis - man, the campy hubs roll great and the rim rides great. Just as ernesto intended.

Enjoy!!!

btompkins - to be honest, the only times I can tell the difference is when trying to make a significant acceleration up a hill while already climbing. But I'm not much of a WW, I'm afraid - I loved that old Merckx. What the Extreme Power seems to offer is less weight, without any handling or reliability demerits.

Xjbaylor, I'll try to find a few more pics of the Zanconato - if you subscribe to the NY Times website, there are a few in the 2013-1-27 article about bike commuters. I will say, it is an amazing bike. I love it.

Here's another couple shots of the Zanc. No pretty posed shots, I'm afraid... And boy do I suck at folding Vittoria XGs.

Fantastic. No need for pretty posed shots of the cross bike, it is good to see it getting dirty.

Wish I could tell you it's my identically-painted cx pit bike... But yes, that's the very same bike, being pressed into commuter duty.

Good for you making the commute. Did it for years when I lived in DC and loved it. keep it up and, as I said earlier, your colnago is awesome!!!

Was that you or someone you know in the Times article early this week? I could have sworn the picture was of a commuter riding the same cross bike.

Nice bike btw!
