In the news today, the UCI Commission can't even get off the ground and disbands because UCI won't cooperate with its own self-appointed group.
As if we need any further evidence that UCI has been the problem all along.

The sport of cycling "needs" him?
McQuaid, who said he had resigned Thursday from the International Olympic Committee body evaluating candidate cities for the 2020 Olympic Games because “my sport needs me," ...
Forget cycling, McQuaid should be a late night comedian.

Travis Tygart has given Armstrong until February 6th of this year to testify under oath or his lifetime ban becomes irreversible.

Not surprisingly, Armstrong's attorneys are still raging against the USADA-

Through the years, he <Armstrong> repeatedly has said he has been tested hundreds of times and never failed a test. Hmm. Maybe they just kept testing him for being a jerk.

Apparently Armstrong won't testify to USADA, but instead is offering to testify to the UCI and possibly WADA. I'm not exactly sure that is the best move in the playbook...

best move is to avoid USADA and go to anything connected with the UCI

Because the UCI has a history of shady operations, Armstrong can emerge through their shadows.

If he testifies to the USADA it's on US soil. Under oath, perjury applies. If he testifies in Canada, it doesn't.

Meaning, he plans to keep right on lying to the bitter end and expects that to be enough to have his lifetime ban reduced.

His lawyer Tim Herman is still ranting about the USADA not having jurisdiction over this whole matter, so according to the Armstrong camp they can circumvent the USADA and go straight to the UCI.

Delusional isn't even the word to describe these latest developments.

This just in. McQuaid's out, Oprah's in as head of the UCI. http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/oprah-winfrey-replaces-mcquaid-as-head-of-uci

Because the UCI will now be a wholly-owned subsidiary of Harpo Productions, Ms. Winfrey has determined that Armstrong's interview with her will be accepted as constituting sworn testimony to the UCI. As soon as Mr. Armstrong hugs Greg Lemond, Betsy and Frankie Andreu, Floyd Landis, and Emma O'Reilly, he will then be free to compete again. In fact Oprah's hoping Lance will actually ride the Tour this summer to give Contador a little competition. Winfrey has informed Travis Tygart that he and USADA are to step off, as she is now in charge of the situation.

Well, this makes about as much sense as what is actually happening.

On a more serious note:

Tonight 60 minutes aired an interview with Travis Tygart, available at http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=50139841n.

Beginning at 8:52 of the video, there is mention of the Swiss lab director who got a suspicious result on Armstrong, and who was then directed by the UCI to meet with Armstrong and Bruyneel and explain the EPO testing process, and he gave Armstrong and Bruyneel the keys to defeat the EPO test.

HT2: Very funny!

I'm feeling a lot of fatigue about pro racing right now. I almost don't care about the actual racing. That will probably wear off for the first real race, Het Volk (I mean Het Nieuwsblad). Probably. But hopefully not. It's really a silly distraction.
