Yep, no argument, couple of extra grams saved on running single length bolts as well!

The hope integrated bash seems great, but if you smacked it hard enough you would have to replace the whole assembly instead of just the bash.

I'm running a Paul chain keeper found on ebay on my Scott Scale 1x9. Seems to work well. I've used other guides like the Blackspire Stinger chain guide that didn't work well at all. The Paul chain keeper hasn't fallen off once.

The Stinger is a lower guide and could never work by itself!

Just to update this thread, piece of CF bought and cut to shape and fitted....

Only taken for a quick spin, having slight issues which I think are indexing of the new rear mech which I need to resolve, but so far working like a dream in keeping the chain on!

It's 2mm think which is a bit of overkill (although if I replaced the outer bash with another 2mm disc it would be just right I think), weight is 40g for the disc (outer cut to 146mm - just outside the chain on a 32T - inner shaped as a 22T granny - no other weight saving techniques yet) plus 9g for the Truvativ granny ring bolts (stnd off my old crankset).

That outer bash looks like a tank.

It does, but it's not..... 82g so close on half the weight of a Shimano or an E13 SC.

You can see from the marks it gets a work out!

Stephen is a wizard with carbon and I have a ton of stuff with them. I just came across this thread and now I am thinking that I need to email Stephen about a custom set up. I would love to have a 34t or 36t carbon chainring and then get the matching outer 104 bcd carbon ring cut to size and then the 64 inner ring matching diameter. I think this set up would be slick for someone just looking for drop protection.

Stephen, what do you think would be the weight of the inner and outer if you made them just to protect the chain from dropping. I have never liked the look of the other chain guides that mount to the downtube.

I think something just high enough to protect the drop would be great.

Stephen what do you think. email me if you want.

As an indication, my guide ring is 2mm thick, 146mm OD and the inner profile is just traced from a normal granny ring, I haven't added any lightening holes or extended the inner up between the bolts (which would also help mud clearance) and it weighs 40g.
