Hi Keir,

Thanks for the reply. For stainless lugs, are you going to take commericially available stainless (example: 304 or 321) and use it as the vase material to cast into lugs? Or will there be an ability to make lugs out of KVA stainless and control the rate of cool to get Martensite crystalization? (Is this even possible for KVA stainless?)

For the BB shell lug, how come you can make a stainless one...

Thanks,
Jason

Hi Jason,

We just buy in Darryl's lugs so as far as the composition of the lugs themselves you would have to ask Darryl. As far as the bb shell is concerned, there isn't a great requirement for stainless in that it is near impossible to polish into the small crevices on a bb shell. As you can see in one of the shots, Tarn fillet brazes the seat stays into the st lug therefore making it unviable for polish. Polish is only available therefore on the headtube lugs, dropouts, fork crown and tubing.
Cheers
Keir

WoW, what a nice thread and beautiful bikes!

This is my steel, initially started to be a race bike but changed direction shortly after to a more relaxed ride, reached 8,55 Kg.

@ GASer: the Tommasini turned out really nice  ! One thing that I don't really like are the graphics on the crankset. A guy on the Retrobike forum did some nice work on an Athena crankset. Maybe he can do something for you too. Check it out here: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=180340&start=0

and it would have been lighter without the head tube area built up for the internal run cables and without the isp. I wanted a very clean look and as little cable housing showing. I am sure that if we went a very light set up that we would have been around 1150g complete finished weight. I would love to buy another frame and go as light as possible.

Currently doing a website that will be ready in 2013 including a blog. In the meantime we have the Mclennan Cycles Facebook page, Instagram and Twitter. I'm going to have the bike up in Sydney for a ride day hopefully in March. You will be more than welcome to take her for a burn!
Cheers
Keir
