I am having an issue with my sizing choice. I have changed my original frame choice and decided to go with the Dogma 65.1.

I appear to be right in the middle of a 565 & 575 top tube. I am 186cm tall with 89cm inseam and previously riding an SL3 56.5 with a 130cm stem (180cm headtube inc. 10mm spacer). I'm thinking the Dogma 565 HT= 165cm may be too larger drop from an 81cm saddle height? But the Dogma 575 HT= 179cm would be ok but may too long on the TT?

Opinions please? Anyone ride either of these sizes, if so what are your measurements and experience with Dogma sizing?

Thanks

If you ride a 56 SL3 with a 130mm stem, I think the Dogma with a 575 toptube (and 120mm stem) would be ideal. Next size seems too short in headtube?

Hi Boost2000

Thanks for your reply. This seems logical looking at the Pinarello geometry but I've read that Dogma frames come up bigger than stated and I'm hoping someone with a similar size can confirm this for me?

I know it's not good to try and emulate the pro riders but the Sky team seem to run up to two sizes smaller in this Frame.

Brad Wiggins = 190cm on the 59(575TT)
Thomas Loftkvist = 186 on the 565(550TT)
Chris Froome = 185 on ?

Yeah, but they all run pretty huge drop from saddle to bar.

The only sure way of comparing frames is by comparing their respective stack and reach measurements. In the Pinarello geometry chart, Competitive Cyclist shows the stack and reach measurements for the 2 sizes that you are considering. Specialized did not publish the stack and reach measurements for the SL3. Possibly the data may be available by contacting their Customer Support. SigmaSports in the UK does show stack and reach for the SL3 that they are selling. To be certain of its accuracy, contact Specialized or do the measurements yourself. Leonard Zinn of Velonews has explained how to do it yourself, http://velonews.competitor.com/2012/05/ ... lly_216035" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. If the SigmaSports data is correct, the stack height of your SL3 is closest to the smaller Pinarello but the reach of your SL3 is closest to the larger Pinarello. The larger Pinarello may be the better choice. No stem spacers and possibly a shorter stem (eg. 120 mm) and possibly a -10 degree angle. You may need to experiment in this regard. In the same way that stack and reach can be measured for the frame, a similar measurement can be made for the placement of the handlebars.

Hi Don

Thank you for your time. This is very useful answer, I will compare the frames and post my findings.

I have now recieved a couple of answers from companies who supply and build the frames and they have all suggested that I could be fitted to either but the drop would be fairly large on the 565 TT (In the region of 115mm with a 10mm spacer).

I have now taken some measurements using my saddle height (SH=797mm) and the stack measurements listed by Pinarello and Specialized to achieve my drop for the 565TT Dogma 65.1 using a 120-130 stem at +6deg.

Dogma (565 TT & 391 reach): Median saddle hight 794mm, less handlebar height (inc 20mm spacer) 679mm, Drop from the saddle the bars would be 115mm.

Dogma (575 TT & 397 reach): Median saddle hight 794mm, less handlebar height (inc 10mm spacer) 674mm, Drop from the saddle the bars would be 120mm.

If this is the correct method to measure the drop I would only be able to use a 100-110 stem on the larger of the two bikes and as stated the stand over is much larger on the bigger frame.
*my previous SL3 Tarmac had a drop of 129mm which felt too much when riding in the drops.

I had Pinarellos several years ago, great bikes, but the way they size is deceiving...

I personally would not drop that much $$ on a frame without getting fit on one personally... especially if you feel you are in between sizes.

I am 182cm tall but have a huge 93cm inseam.. I run my saddle at 82.5cm... I used to ride a 57.5 Pinarello Prince with a 12stem... Before I got my Cannondale EVO, I spoke with a few reputable dealers, and they actally suggested I go down to the 56 on the Dogma2.. most likely due to my shorter upper body... I personaly like to be stretched out, and my EVO is a 58 with a 12 stem...

I could have sworn I read somewhere Wiggins actually rides a 56 Dogma.. I will try and find the info... but as mentioned he slams his stem... He does ride a 55cm Graal TT bike according to an article in the probike section on cyclingews, and the guys seem to go down a size from the road to TT setup...

Yes it seems difficult to find out frame sizes for any of the pro riders as a comparison. Chris Froome and Thomas Lofkvist are much closer in body type and height to me than Bradley Wiggins. I would expect to be on one size larger to achieve drop and a 120-130 stem.

It would be nice to be set up on both frames and have a fit done but my LBS can't organise that so I'm trying my best to get the information I need using measurements from my existing setup, Pinarello specialist fitters/dealers, forum members knowledge and eperience with the frame.

I had this same issue when I was getting my bike from Team Sky. I spent quite a bit of time talking to a friend of mine on the Team and the Mechanics.

As other posters have mentioned, the Pinarello sizing is a bit odd. The reason most of the Team go with a smaller nominal frameset size is that the head tubes are long. In the end, in order to get a proper fit (i.e., low enough bars), I had to go with a nominal '52' frameset and run a 140mm stem. Fortunately, the seatpost has a big enough setback and the Team saddles have long rails, too.

The only problem you will have going with a smaller frameset is that it seems you have a very high position and may not be able to get comfortable without a lot of spacers (which is the opposite from the problem that I had).
