Snow, ice, extreme cold, and even rain seem like good reasons to ride indoors on rollers instead of getting out on the road. Recently, it's been reasonably warm where I live. Most days it rains off and on, so if you're lucky, you can complete a ride with no rain. However, the roads are wet and dirty. My bike gets very dirty after relatively few miles. Cleaning it after every ride is time-consuming. Probably I'll stick to rollers until the roads are drier and cleaner.

HTFU man! You need a winter ride. I just rode 1hour out in a blizzard today here in the midwest.
Only because I need to get 148 more miles to reach 15,000 for the year.

Ya I dont care about miles or whatever, fitness matters. Though my handling skills will suffer when back on the mtb.

I used to snow mtb with an old rig, does it for me when its not too cold

Slap some fenders on the bike and go outside! The only time I think riding inside is really beneficial is when I am doing longer intervals, below -10C, or the visibility is so poor it becomes dangerous to go out.

Rain and snow isn't bad. With good fenders you can tackle it pretty well.

I hate winter but I try not let it stop me. Tuesday I rode in a snow blizzard -10C and yesterday in -18C. CX bike with studded tires and your off.

Of course you have to layer up. At its coldest I use a few layers with assos top jacket. For hands I use two silk gloves underneath some hardcore winter gloves. For the feet I use two woolen socks with normal road shoes and with neopren overshoes. Party on :beerchug:

Only thing that stops me from riding outside is darkness or cold rain.

I'm not a fan of expensive fancy clothes, i mosly use ex-pro kits from pros.
No clothing will save your ass in cold rain. None. Atleast not in eastern european rain.
Also I use pants with single lycra layer till about -2 degrees, I hate when my legs gets too warm.
Still using my SMS Santini windstopper winter jacket from Kross - Selle Italia 1998 team ;)
