I just put all of my DA9000 on my bike except for the crank which would be available on Jan i suppose (currently running sram force crank). When I rode it today it made a noisy sound similar to my previous sram force. I was expecting a quieter drivetrain, is this normal? My old road bike equipped with 105 seems to run a lot quieter than the 9000. Or could it be the sram force crank?

I installed Shimano DA 9000 a few months ago and have not noticed any noise coming from the drive train. Does it need adjustment? If not it may be the cranks.

I believe it is either:
the cranks, or
something odd and silly, like routing the chain incorrectly through the rear derailleur cage.
A customer friend, who owns a handful of bikes, all with DA7900 (and 7800 before that), just got 9000 installed. He texted me saying that its smoothness is unbelievable.

Yes, it sounds like the compatibilty with the 10 speed crankset. You also will notice there is trim now on both the big ring and small chain ring. If that isn't set up correctly, you may have some rubbing on the front derailleur cage. Hope this helps.

Just found out about the fd trimming, i makes much less noise now. the noise looks like coming from the cassete or rd. my lbs said that it could be the pulley, any thoughts?

If it's the exact same noise only subdued, that you were having before you trimmed, then it has nothing to do with the rear derailleur. if it is similar but not the same, then maybe.
Occasionally, the derailleur hanger will be bent, not in but twisted. This makes the chain's path to the lower pulley crooked. Once in the large ring/large cog, the chainline plus the misalignment make the chain try to come off the pulley, and makes a bunch of racket.
how about some pictures? In particular, I'd like to see a profile shot of the rear derailleur.

I just checked them. rd and pulley are both perfectly aligned. The trimming help quiten the noise a lot when in small chainring and large cog. I've also cleaned the drivetrain and now it is a lot better. I'll probably give it a spin once the rain&snow stops and see if it makes any of that noise again.

I am upgrading my ultra Di2 bike with a new crankset. I am going to go to a compact and I want to use a 9000 crankset on my 10sp. is this compatible?
