Dura Ace 9000 - ETA late 2012/early 2013

9000 shifters
7900 crankset (compact)

1. Front derail works great with the shifter. Didnt have any problems shifting at all. Cant really tell if the shifting is better than the 6600 since I rarely shift on that side.

2. Rear derail was another story. It just wont shift to the 13t and it kinda rubs the 14th teeth. Other than that it shifts fine throughout the other gears. Most of the time I have it on the 15t so this is not a problem for me. Overall I'm pretty happy with the performance.

Interesting that the 9000FD STI works with the 7800 FD ... which would mean that it has a different actuation ratio to the 7900 FD ...???

The 9000RD STI and 9000 RD apparently has a different actuation ratio to the 7800/7900 RD.
Perhaps you should try the 9000 chain, it may just work for 13t and better for 14t ...

Unfortunately, I dont have a 6700/7900 FD that I can do a test. My friends are not willing to remove their FD for me to experiment :). I have the 9000 chain on order hopefully that fixes the issue with the rear. Will post back with my findings with the new chain. I was able to shift 11 times with the rear shifter but the 7900 RD wont go beyond the 10th cog (wanted to see if it actually worked).

The 7800 STi would work with the 7900 FD, but not the 7900 STi with the 7800 FD. Due to the lack of a mid-position indentation in the 7900 Sti.

The 9000 STi has some specific ratio or spring design implementations that allow for a constant actuation force throughout the stroke. How this affects its compatibility with either 77800 or 7900 Sti, I haven't had the chance to try yet. So it may be the reason that it is not completely compatible with the 7900 RD.

For 'perfect shifts' .. definitely go with the 9000 RD.

There have been some posts about the incompatibility of the Compagnolo SR 11-speed casettes with the Shimano 9000 11-speed hubs and vice versa. I am also going to assume that the Shimano 9000 shifters will not work with Campagnolo 11-speed cassettes and vice versa for the Campagnolo SR shifters and Shimano 9000 11-speed cassettes also.

But, I was wondering if the Campagnolo SR cramkset work with the rest of the Shimano 9000 11-speed groupset?

KMC seems to have removed the earlier reference to Shimano 11-speed compatibility from its webpages for the M/L 11 connecting link and the X11SL chain.

How are people joining their 9000 chains, and with which tools?

I used the Park CT-3 tool and used the pin that came with the chain. I prefer the link, but was unaware of any when I built the bike. So far so good.

I don't mean to be rude - but I don't get it.

What are you gaining from the 9000 levers that is more important than having a drive train that works? :noidea:

No worries... I just did it because I want to and I wanted to upgrade my 6600 shifters :D. If I couldn't get the shifters to work with the larger cogs then I would have gone back to the 6600 shifters. I cant get myself put down the money for the complete 9000 groupo... This will do the job until the Ultegra 11 speed stuff comes out. I'm happy with just using 12,15-27T. Now I dont have to worry about upgrading the shifters. The increase in brake power over the 6600 shifters is very noticeable (using 6700 brakes w/ swiss stop pads). This made it worth it for me.

I just ordered an X11SL chain for 2013 11sp DA from Fairwheel. I made sure it was compatible and they confirmed. I havent installed it yet, but would love to know if it is in fact useable.
