@viriquene and rocarule
Yes the specialized and lightning share the same spider, HOWEVER, specialized have rotated the orientation of the splines on the spider ( by about 9 degrees if I remember correctly) ensuring that the chainring bolt holes are in the wrong place, as well as incorrect chainline. Power2max do make a lightning spider for ~740€ , however you have to request via email/ phone. I would guess that the lightning spider (power2max or normal) would foul on your rear stays, as they are spaced inwards rather than outwards like on the lightning.
In practise they achieve this by making the arms of the specialized version wider at the pedal mount than at the shoulder of the arms, whereas the lightning ones go almost straight out.

Ouch. This would be worthless to me in its current state. I'd want to use it to pace myself on climbs but the ones around here are not consistent. Lots of changes in grade due to switchbacks and whatnot.
We may get the chance to see for ourselves soon: http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/s ... ing-36278/
Quarq RIKEN for $1600 is looking more and more attractive.
I'm pretty much sold on the second gen Power2Max for my new bike- $1,470 including cranks (or £935 where I am).
I've got a Hollowgram SiSl SRM on the road bike, which works perfectly- but I don't have deep enough pockets to buy another one!
The Power2Max looks like a really good product now that they've fixed the temperature issue, and it's hard to argue with the price.
Go for the Rotor 3D+ and you can run it in pretty much any frame, also.

I really like my Quarq and although 2 year old it still works like a charm.

P2M is next on my list for crank-based powermeters.
If I were buying a new PM and Stages was my price point I'd buy a used SRM or a new powertap wheel, both of which have been proven to work.
