I recently built up a blue ac1sl, which I'm really enjoying. I've been giving some serious thought to putting tririg omega brakes on it, replacing my kcnc c1's. Then I got to thinking is it even worth the extra weight on the rear wheel? After all, with me on the bike my legs are pretty much churning up the airflow before it ever gets back there anyway. If there's no real aero advantage there, I might as well stick w/ the weight savings.

Curious to hear some opinions.....

Well if your worrying about the weight penalty for rear brake only its going to be about 18g. my Omegas were 121g the pair and 124 manufacturers quoted weight.

Probably not worth it on a road bike, savings would be in the low single digit watts.

Fyi Just because the airs dirty doesn't mean it doesn't cause drag.

It would be 121 a piece.

yep....silly me  mind you, it could be without pads/adjusters as those figures would make sense and would make them quite desirable.

I'm pretty sure it's w/ the hardware. Even still my kcnc's are some of the lightest going and I've had them at least 4 or 5 years now (if not more).

Well, I've decided to stick w/ the kcnc brakes and not go for the omega's right now. WW wins- I took my front kcnc off and weighed it, just to be sure-- with pads and all hardware it weighed 84g. Compared to 121 or 124g, I don't think the aero advantage will be that much. I don't have that many places to lose weight on this frame. I'm gonna use the kcnc brakes until they're no longer useable.

If my time trialing ever warrants it, I'll pick up a pair for that bike, but not now.
