Almost two years now.
A little over a year ago i had a nasty accident on this bike and broke both my arms. Luckily the impact on the bike was minimal (i took all the impact obviously). A lot of plates and screws later i rebuilt the bike and started riding in earnest to rebuild my strength/fitness. A little before a 24hr race i had another run in on the local cycle path of all places (someone was riding on the other side and it was a blind corner) which resulted in another impact. This one significant.
I decided to retire the BMC. In this time i rode a caad10 and whilst, for the money, it was unbeatable, i was already spoilt with the way the slr01 felt. It suited me better. I had spent many hours in the saddle dialling everything in and had precise measurements of what i preferred. I never found that feeling on the caad10 no matter what. I toyed with the idea of a new frame for a couple of month. In my consideration was look 695's, S-works sl4, Parlee's, Time RXRS, Time VXRS. Basically i did my head in. At the end of the day i was almost ready to pull the trigger on a s-works sl4 frame when i had the idea of sending the BMC into a carbon expert to get them to look over everything and refresh the frame. I finally got off my ass one day and posted the frame off fully expecting the frame to be a write off but to my surprise it came back better than ever. I instructed for the frame to be finished off in raw with a clear coat and the BMC logo painted on in original porportion in gloss black. Just that one logo. Nothing else. Chips on the frame and slight cosmetic blemishes was repaired and the frame absolutely looked stunning. When i first got it back from the carbon specialist i was in shock and awe. I could not keep my jaw off the ground. The transition between the 3k weave and uni carbon was even more obvious and the frame felt it was ready for a new life.
I have built her up now and have ridden her on a few hundred km's and i am so happy i chose to go down this path. As soon as i built her, it felt like coming back home. I had a smile the whole of the first ride and still do when i jump on her. I am not one to be sentimental about inanimate objects and usually i change bikes like underwear. Still, with this frame, i feel like it has so much more than just the sum of all the weaves of carbon bonded together. It had a story behind it, our story. I will keep riding her for as long as i am able to. Truely in love!
The second build had a few small changes that i opted for as a evolution improvement. But first, here is what it looked like the moment before i decided to retire it and jump to a caad10.
I crashed with a set of zipp 404 FC's and not the ax lightness tubs but decided to sell the ax lightness in the end anyways.

I have pretty much tuned every part of the bike right down to the top cap to suit my taste/riding. Even though it might just look like another BOB bike to many, to me, the story and the part choices are the only one in the world.
