Chainstay protectors. What are you using.
Moderator: Moderator Team
I am trying to finish up the build on my WW 29er and have a few things to get still. I was going to wrap my DS chainstay with an innertube cut down and wrapped around the chainstay right up to the BB. When I got the tube cut to the right length and made sure it worked, the inner weenie in my had to weigh it after and it was 48g. I thought there has to be a better and lighter option.
What is everyone using that is light and also protect the chainstay.

Just electrical tape across the top
For certain parts stiffer is more important than lighter.

Found out about this on mtbr forum ... and literally just wrapped my old Ti 26" this morning (building it back up with XX1 and a rigid DT Swiss fork). Works great, stretches as thin as you like, and a lot lighter than an old tube.

Go to a mtorbike shop and get frame tape/scuff tape. Should weigh about 6g when you are done.
Updated: Racing again! Thought this was unlikely! Eventually, I may even have a decent race!

The other bikes I use the ones came already preglued or installed by the frame manufacturer.

I used to use a tube. Now I either use 3m vinyl tape on roadies... for mtbs I use a hutchinson fusion 3 tire that was punctured and then I cut off the beads... like the tube, but totally next level.
