Noticed a few riders at our cross race this weekend in CO with what appears to be the new SRAM Hydraulic Disk brakes, the levels are much taller, this was the best photo I could find:

They might as well go hydraulic shifting while they're at it.

Then form factor gets back to normal since they can ditch the cable-actuation mechanisms.

Very valid point! Maybe that's the next level? That would be pretty cool and a reason to switch to Sram on the CX bike for sure!

There is a german company that has already made and marketed a MTB hydraulic shifting mechanism. Not popular though and the price is steep.

Looking forward to this being generally available. All that is needed now are frame/forks. Salsa are doing some at least.

Supposedly they're a little bit heavier, probably between 200 and 400 grams.

Yes, I already know.
I posted here on WW my report from InterBike where I met up with them and learned that they are developing hydraulic shifting for road w/ customer's choice of rim or disc hydraulic braking.

But, this topic is about SRAM.

It's sort like saying:
"Hey, you know I heard Shimano is coming out with a Quick Release mechanism" and someone else replying "Campagnolo has already released one" - it doesn't matter what has already existed before. If that was the case, we wouldn't have variety in the marketplace for anything. :lol:

SRAM trying to go forwards with hydraulic brakes when they should be looking at electronic shifting. Sure it makes sense for CX. But hydraulic brakes on road bikes are bad news.
