Sounds exciting prendrefeu! I much like you do the majority of my thinking in prison (aka school) and amazingly it's where my best ideas come from. I've nearly finished a speedplay concept I'll start a thread on soon... Keep us updated prendre

Managed topurchase another slightly damaged RED brake / shifter off a local rider today. Have decided to try CNC or accuratelty cut the material from it this time, instead of willy nilly...

So, looking at past work, what would YOUR suggestions be on developing this shifter and brake lever tune? Where would you keep the material, where would you remove it etc...?

Prendrefeu has the hoods sorted. Clearly the material we both used is differnet, mine have still got the issue of shifting under pressure and sliding slightly. So i think i need to find a product that is more elastic andcan be shrunk onto the hood more....

P.S you light lever tune is brilliant Prendrefeu, i like it! :beerchug:

seems like neoprene would work. if you were handy with a needle and thread.

@lechat I'm 17, male, still at high school so my seeing skills are yet to develop  I might get mum to have a look at it, but I really doubt they would be anywhere near as light....

I admire the work on the hoods, but the looks leave a bit to be desired. What about felt for the hood then use heat shrink tubing over it. Should look pretty normal and still be half the weight.

Another idea is to take a standard hood and cut off the aeres that your hands don't contact, but leave all the knobs and bumps that hold the hood in place. Onec the hood is carved cover with heatshrink. Much lighter, normal looking and will hold in place.

I agree with both of you, aesthetically the felt isn't up to par... I'll investigate the heat shrink, I assume you can get it from sailing shops or the likes? And yes it would be ridiculously light still....

On a side note, correspondence with the famous Berk is looking super promising! The stuff was shown me is unbelievable! I'll keep you all posted!

Thats a bit of a generalization about 17 y/o's.

Well welcome anyway. For other watchers of this forum I'm struggling to find large enough heat shrink. Any ideas where I could find some about 30mm?

Another take on the felt hoods:

Image

It is difficult to work the felt around the top of the lever and to get everything smoothed out well. They are 4-5g, but they ain't pretty.
