Hey guys,
Looking to build up a silly light set of tubulars for racing this upcoming season. So far, the only options I've seen, in the 29er variety, are ENVE and AX-Lightness. Are the Fluckinger brothers using one of these two brands, or something else?

I think they are rocking Bontrager tubulars. I doubt they would be on anything else.

But it wouldn't be unreasonable to think that Trek custom made the rims. I've heard of the R&D team making custom parts for their road teams.

From talking to one of the trek reps, the world cup trek guys are actually using the bontrager aelous 3 tubular rims, drilled with 28 holes. The tried making new rims, but decided that the aelous were stiff enough and durable enough for mountain use. Also if you have ever seen the rims, you would know that they are plenty wide to support mountain tubulars. The pro road teams also used aelous 3 rims with 28 spokes for classics like paris roubaix. The rep I was talking to actually had a pair of his own built up 28 spokes with CK hubs for cross. Not sure if/how you would be able to get them.

You are correct. They are the Aeolus D3 tubular rims and dugast tires.

Not true at all. The new rims are made at Trek. I watched them being layed up at the factory.

I know the Aeolus 3 D3s are 27mm wide, but how wide is the gluing surface?
I'm wondering what is the necessary ratio, for back of a better word, for the amont of gluing surface as compared to tire width, to have a good, trouble free setup.
It looks to me like a lot of the newer, fatter road rims would provide a great ride off-road. The leaf spring affect of their shape would give them a nice amount of compliance, methinks.
