i'm on this forum for about half a year, the most part of my post for now are on the road wheelbuilding subject.

I just want to introduce you my little bike... This is a 1998 trek 5220, yes 5220 lol, this was made one year only supposed to have a triple ultegra group but mine was with 105 triple group.. supposed to get the name of trek 5020.. something is missing here i think.
I will not try to hide you that my project was inspired by the beautiful nude carbon trek i have see here.

So, The first pic is the bike when a bought it, when i see it like that i'm questionning me about why i bring it home, it was not really hot.

After a year a put my hand on a bike with the component of the trek 5200 from year 2001, and i swap the parts(the rolf wheel and ultegra triple group).

And now i have changed about everything on the bike, with a 10 speed groupset. I also strip the paint of with the razor blade technique and a light wetsanding, i also did it on the bottle cage, the crank and the seapost. I have applied the clear myself, it turn out good but not perfect.

the weight when i got it was over 21 pounds and now i get 16,20 pounds or 7,36kg

I have an other wheelset my last build kinlin xr-270 with lighter hub and veloplug at 1394gr for the bike, the slr stripped, a red cassette, and lighter quick release, and i will be below 15,6 pound or 7,08 Kg

I'm checking for some TREK decal for the bike, and maybe in the futur to change the headset for treadless and the fork/steam, here i could get about 300gr easily

Nice job .I think the stem change would look better as well .

yes the frame is light and i was really impressed by the weight of the original fork.

without clear coat it was about 425g, before removing it from the frame i was thinking that the fork weight was about 500 or 600g, because i have seed a lot of entre level treadless fork with aluminium steerer at that weight.

The clear coat looks great from the pics. Do you know how much weight you saved by removing the paint job - i.e. what was the frame weight before compared to the 1041g final weight?

I don't have the exact weight with the old paint. I have just weighted it with the little part like the cable guide, head-set, etc.

I was too happy to began the stripping that i have not take the time to unscrewed everything and weight up the frame.

But with what i have seed when i weighted it, i guess i save aroung 50g.

Good job..! looks way better. Yes maybe new stem?

Very good work.
I would suggest to make a normal steering headset and fork with a carbon fiber tube. It really is improving and could save a considerable amount in grams.

so i just get some decals for the bike, and a new sram red black front derailleur




i also got a new treadless fork, now i just need a headset and a stem. I think i will change the fork after this summer.
this fork is 350gr, with the top cap and the expander! The only bad side of this one is the color of the bianchi logo, and this stichers is under the clearcoat.
