Shorten seat post...?
Moderator: robbosmans
Any rule of thumb on how much you can cut of the seat post, without compromising safety...? As in "how many cm's seat post is necessary in the seat tube?

General rule of thumb is that the seatpost needs to extend past the top-tube junction by 1 or 2 cm.

Is there not a min mark on it? Just measure what this is to the end and then make sure you cut off leaving this amount. I think its usually around 10cm...

This must be the safe solution... I'll measure and see where that takes me.

actually Prendrefeu was right. Marking on the seatpost is there to indicate the strength of the seatpost, and you should also respect the mininum depth of the seatpost, but more importantly you should use the TT/ST as a reference to prevent frame damage.

TT/ST = top tube/seat tube?
Meaning you agree that 1-2 cm below the point where the two tubes merge is the minimum seat post length?
