Kevin,
Valid suggestion but I don't like longer bolts as it's not 'clean' also they are heavier so may well offset the deficit of using the inners!

Stephen, perhaps you should offer inner (thinner) and outer bash type rings in CF individually!

I'm going a similar path (Using a bunch of old parts to build an XC bike).

I'm opting for an E13 ring and an XCX guide. I like the idea of dual guide rings though, and time will tell how reliable a guide is.

I run 1x10 Shimano XT 980 setup with SRAM 1070 12-36

- RF Turbine 180 with RF SS 302t ring
- Shaman Racing ChainGuide
- KMC X10 SL chain - shortened as much as possible on 32-36 gear

Never had any problem at all.. even when I tried setup without chainguide...

Well I have an E13 ring on the way, already have an outer bash, just deciding whether to buy a CF from Stephen, a raidium or make my own.....as soon as I've tried it I'll report back!

On my commuter (1x9) without a chainguide the chain kept coming off on shifts......

We can do them easily. 2mm inner and 3 to 4mm outer would seem about right. We wouldn't have a 'standard' set as the diameters would all need to be fairly custom depending on the size of the chainring.

no fence..but double bash our single bash is IMO ugly... chainguide such as MRP is much elegant...

That depends very muh on where you ride really though! I'd prefer to not run a bash, but would prefer to rather than keep damaging chainwheels!

I'm not sure how a downhill type chain guide is more elegant than a bash guard, personally I think a bash guard is far more elegant.

The Hope chainring with built in guide is a really nice piece of kit. No idea on price though?

I think it's going to hit for somewhere between $80-$100. I'm going to guess weights will be around 70g too, going by the amount of metal (2x chainring. Rough estimate.)

Hope make fantastic products, and this might be a great alternative to a chainguide if it can be used with a jumpstop or similar. However that does not solve backpedal shifts.

If a secure setup could be accomplished with a minimal chainguide and single ring, this is a close weight battle. Jumpstop/inner fence + IBR would be damn close to a single ring + XC guide.

A light'ish' ally bash is about 100g, a decent 32t circa 30-35g, so I'd guess at 120-150g for it.

Hope say from 62g. That is genuinely impressive.

That is very impresive indeed......£70 (RRP) is a bit expensive compared to a conventional ring and bash (about £45-50) but for a saving of about 60-90g makes it cheap! £63 from CRC.

For what you're getting I think £70 is a bargain. Around the same as an XTR chainring isn't it?

Combined with a CF inner guide ring, it would be super lightweight 1x option!
