When Bjarne Riis says he doesn't "understand that guy" in a 2008 documentary it might refer to his unwillingness to follow "the program", I have been thinking

Sastre did not want to embrace the tech available . He much prefered to ride on instinct. It pissed Riis off.

^The cyclingnews report says Dombrowski and Boswell are coming in to replace some of the older guys that will be leaving. Who are they refering to exactly? I wouldnt be surprised if Michael Rodgers were to go to Greenedge.

The only Sky riders I know of that retiring are Michael Barry and Jeremy Hunt.

Phinney is tall compared to the rest. If cycling don't pan out there is always basketball.

Nice! So it seems the Strava record is 8:53, set by a guy on 1 Oct 2011 (start position of segment may be after that used on road paint).

The road isn't on the Google map, which is why I couldn't find the segment.

Dammit: I rode right by there in 2010, descending eastward, and didn't realize what I was passing.

P.S. an alternate segment is here: http://app.strava.com/segments/662618

That dude has 22 pages of KOMs and put in 500,000 feet in elevation this year. He may not be Joe DombrowSKY, but whomever he is, he's no joke.

Yet he isn't a pro?
I wonder what he does for a living or his age.

Some folks from WW may know him as there's a cross over: he's a forum member over at BDC (Italian forum).

Me too in 2009. I was riding in the opposite direction as well and had no idea that route was there although it looks hard to spot and was gassed at the top of that climb in the rain - the climb out of Nesso that they descended is amazing. You simply cannot go wrong riding around this part of italy... if you don't mind climbing of course :D

I can't wait to get back someday.

He's really not that tall, just that they're all pretty darn short. Interesting that Hesjedal doesn't look as tall off the bike compared with the others though. Maybe the clothes and less of a heel haha.

Taylor Phinney is 6 ft 5 in (1.97 m)
Ryder Hesjedal is 6 ft 2 in (1.88 m)
