How does the weight compare between the two clamps?
The slit where the clamp is on the new ultimate is diagonal, while the Mt Zoom is faced vertically?
Could this affect clamping performance?

Maybe its just fluke, but any clamp I've ever used that doesn't have a barrel nut (like most of the super light clamps), creaks like mad. Its so easy for the two faces to go beyond being perfectly parallel when tightened. For this reason I would be really interest in trying the Parts of Passion purist clamp (or similar design). Unfortunately it is a lot more money. Although there is one with a similar design for $26 usd on ebay that I saw.
I spoke with Mr zoom . I rang him to order a clamp . He did not have a new one in stock, he then told to me to hold on a second and dug a nearly new one in my size out of his stock . He let me have it at half price . when it turned up it was as good as new . Top chap in my opinion and clamp works fine.
