Is there any good alu tubular wheelsets out on the market? Am building a Ridley Helium and want some aluwheels, always riding tubulars. Will use Campagnolo Super Record. And have checked Campagnolo Shamal wheels and Fulcrum Racing Zero but are there any cool interesting options that maybe is lighter than around 1400g? Also looked a little at Mavic Ksyrium but seems pretty expensive compared to Campagnolo and Fulcrum

Don't want Mavic Reflex or Ambrosio Crono F20 rims, already tried them.

So are there any good options for me?

A Kinlin TB25 or Hed Belgium build could go below 1400g., and they'd be much cheaper than the Campagnolo wheels too.

I was surprised with the quality of the Velocity Escapes I built up. Rims came in at 385g/395g
So not super lightweight but plenty durable (And cheap)

I'm also using Velocity Escapes. So far, so good. I'm even using them for cross now and they've been holding up well. The rear feels a little soft but I think that has more to do with the poor bracing angle of the DT swiss 350 hub than the rim. 28 holes and 175 lbs for reference.

The weighed in at 398 and 402 grams.

I know demand isn't super high, but you would think with Kinlin and Stans being able to make light clincher rims, they could get a tubular rim in the 325-350 gram range without being complete noodles.

700 gram for rims, ~250-300 for hubs, 220-240ish for spokes/nipples. ~1150-1200 gram wheelset would be pretty sweet without going carbon.

Kinlin TB25 in 20/24h.
The 50g penalty over Escapes (around 420g, I've seen a few below that weight) is half gained back by a few spokes less. The rim is much tougher IMO.
They're dirt cheap, so you can use bladed spokes and a good set of lighter hubs, to achieve around 1300-1320g.

I'd like to try HED Belgium tubulars also, not the lightest (around 430g), and only available 24h and up I think. More expensive though.

Next question, if I build a set with some of this you mentioned. Will it be as stiff as a Shamal 2012 for example or just lighter?

How heavy are you? Are the road in your area good? If you are light enough and the road smooth enough the 20/24H could work in the kinlin rim.

You would need some very light hubs though to get below 1400g.

I'm 62kg so not so heavy. Using a pair of FFWD F2R with DT190 at the moment. Had a pair of wheels with Ambrosio Crono F20, DT 240hubs and DT Revolutionspokes last year.

I have a set of the HED Belgium built with Alchemy hubs and CX-Rays... 1381g. Great, great wheelset.

I posted about these in another thread, but Neuvation has a complete wheelset for $340. The hubs are not so great, and I doubt you're looking for a budget wheelset.

However, they claim a total weight of 1,350 g for the set. Mine came out to 1,319. Claimed weight of the rim is 380 g and it's 22 mm wide. No apparent problems or misalignment mounting 22mm Conti Sprinters, but this was my first time gluing tubulars so take that with a grain of salt.

Not sure who makes the rim, but it can be laced 20/24 and felt fine in terms of stiffness to my low power girly self.

those are getting there! The hub weight is 350 grams, could drop some weight there.

"Probably not. We have a long lead time on them and I like to sell as much as I can in complete wheels. Hope you understand.

Which is too bad as they could be built up into a much lighter wheelset. So the question is, will these be available elsewhere and who makes them?
