The cleat threads have suddenly become scary loose. Once I tore into the inside of the sole - I see the tiny triangular thread inserts are only held by cellophane packing tape! I swear, Made in China stuff sux!

What can I do to improve this problem? Return/exchange is out of the question, because I got these used on fleabay. After 900 miles - all the threads inside the carbon sole are wiggling now. Suggestions?

Not really, but the cleat insert keep turning and never gets tightened properly.

Maybe you can glue the inserts in place and still be happy with the shoes? That is what i would do.

Just for my sanity, are my fizik R1 shoes made in Yurp?

I have 2012 Bontrager RL and 2012 RXXXL shoes and they've been great. My RL's have done over 2000 miles in the last two months with no issues, even after smashing a few cleats from some silly riding.

On RBR you mention that you got these shoes off ebay for a steal, did you ever think as to why?

Get everything in the right position and then "JB Weld is your friend".
For certain parts stiffer is more important than lighter.
