Graham Obree Speed Record Bike
Moderator: Moderator Team
So cool, thanks for sharing!
Obviously another smart design which nobody else thought of. Not sure about the lack of gears, but I guess the push-pull action gives a bit more flexibility than a typical bike pedalling action.
There is a side-on photo in this month's Tour magazine. According to the article my understanding was that he thinks the bike could break the record without a fairing. I think that's unlikely, but I think Obree stands a good chance with his innovations, legs and lungs plus a fairing.
Let's also hope it uses some lucky washing machine parts!

I read that he does have a carbon fairing for it too. What an awesome project - I hope he gets what he set out to achieve!

At those speeds a super low CdA fairing is essential.
The power requirements to break the record are not crazy numbers; producing them in the required position, inside a tight, hot shell while staying upright is likely a bit harder.

Nice! Upper body strength is a requirement.
The position is optimal for flat roads.
Maybe a fender on the front wheel when training in the streets?
The weight is heavy. Anyone one know the weight.
What is the weight limit for the bike to break a hour record.

I never took drugs to improve my performance at any time. I will be willing to stick my finger into a polygraph test if anyone with big media pull wants to take issue. If you buy a signed poster now it will not be tarnished later. --Graeme Obree

I think i read a whilst ago that he has 3 gears on it i might be wrong though it could just be the one. I do know however he will be pushing the equivalent of a 298 inch gear.
Also love the fact that he is still wearing his club kit XD Actually i passed him a few weeks ago on a run, he didn't have his special bike with him though.

I'm a big Graeme fan but this is definitely not a purely original idea:

How much power can you (or actually Graham) crank out prone vs. recumbent?

The next version of this will also involve the arms!

If you notice there is a plate there.
