Has anyone replaced/weighed the plastic rim strip on the Shimano RS80 C24 wheelset? I am trying to figure out how much weight can be saved over the stock kit. The finish is nice on the stock set-up, but I wonder if there is much weight to be saved with either veloplugs or stan's yellow tape.
I run Open Corsa's and latex tubes so durability is a concern as I haven't had issues using the stock kit so I don't want to bring any issues upon myself.
Cheers!

Not sure.....it is a plastic strip and it looks like it needs to be cut off to weigh it. I was hoping to see if anyone else had cut theirs out.

I've weighed several rim strips, all were 20-27 grams for 700c plastic strips, Cloth ones were over 35g. Veloplugs for 24 holes are 6g
Plus veloplugs resist high pressure tape blow out far better
Add Conti Supersonic inner tubes and you are saving 60-70 grams off the rim. It is noticable

Thanks for the info! Do you happen to know what size veloplugs will work for Shimano rims.

if you are using a thin latex tubes, do take some time to smooth out the plastic surface as it tends to have dome rough edges that might pierce you tubes overtime. it happen to me with challenge latex tubes @58gm and vredestein @45gm

Using Michelin Aircomp tubes....are you referring to the edges on the veloplugs?
How about Stan's yellow tape? I was thinking it would be pretty light even compared to veloplugs.

Don't Do it!
I have a set of C24 Rims that I removed the Shimano tape for Velo Plugs and electrical tape and it was not worth it.
The shimano tape is a high strength plastic rim strip and weighs only a couple grams more then velo plugs and 1 round of tape.
When I was done I regretted all the work for what is no gain. That shimano tape is nice stuff.
FYI, it can be removed without cutting but it's tricky and don't know how well it will go back on. It is sold as a loop and gets stretched onto the wheel.
