started to make a list for a ww build -

I've read a lot about the al tune skyline skewers (17.5g) - seems there are a lot of concerns on its safety however i couldn't find any entries on its failure etc.

so IS is safe?

I am sure they are safe for their intended audience, that is for lighter riders who are not so hard in equipment. For 100+ kg riders like me, the factor of safety goes down significantly.

careful with my equipment however roads in london, getting out of the city especially can be unpredictable.

Have you thought about getting the Tune U20 skewers. Only 2g heavier but solid as a rock for even 100kg + riders and very beautiful. Also a fabulous closing action.

Only down side is cost.

Is the tightening spanner included with the skewers? (doesn't seem to say anywhere)

Would you then need a spanner to open the skewer in the event of a puncture. How much does this spanner weigh if you have to carry it? No point in loosing weight in place to add it on in another.

Solid as a rock?

I love the feel of ultra-light alu axle skewers during out of the saddle up hill 2000W sprints of my 100 kg body* and 5 kg bike - it feels solid ... or not.

* this is for a hypothetical 100 kg rider, as neither the body mass nor wattage are mine

yeah, but we weight our bikes, not whats in the back of our jerseys, right?

we're talking about an equally light tiny spanner. I personally carry an oldschool keychain with slots for maybe 5-8 keys - 3 occupied. That also carried my cards, id & cash. so for me, its not a big deal.

150lb rider, I've been using them for the better part of 5 months now, zero complaints so far as my wheels are still on!
