The riding really is great around SLC. I hope you enjoy. The proximity of the mountains is convenient.

There are a handfull of weekly/bi-weekly hillclimb series & TT & Crits, as well as the road races and TONS of organised tours and events.

Been contemplating a move myself, and had a couple of questions for you SLC guys.

What's the weather like? Here in Phoenix, I can ride all year, if I want to. Is that possible there, or does it snow, and get crappy in the winter? Do you guys switch to MTB or cross bikes when the weather gets bad?

Allergies? Mine are terrible, and I've been told AZ is about the worst place I can live. Would I be any better off there?

You can ride all year in SLC, but of course you need to bundle up pretty extensively in January-February. Surprisingly, we don't get much snow in the valley. There are a few snow and rain days, of course, but not bad. I usually just call them "rest days". Often there are 50°-60° days in mid winter. You need to own a full compliment of cold weather gear though (booties, belclava, heavy gloves, etc)
There is lots of MTN biking and cross riding too, but I don't do that. My MTN bike is just set up as a "sloppy weather road bike".

Allergies: I don't have that problem, but I think it is bad for certain types of pollen and good for others. Maybe someone else has better info.

Just plug in any day of the year and it will tell you all the average weather, stats & averages FOR THE LAST 30 YEARS.
For example:
The Average high temperature for JAN 1 (for the past 30 years) is.....36 F (there is 5-6 months of winter whether we like it or not )

I guess more importantly, how is the economy? I'm an auto mechanic, and things are ok here, but what about up there? Is craigslist the place to look for jobs?

The economy here is pretty terrible, though not as bad as many places in the US.
Hopefully that will change after we get a real President and stop the experiments in creating a socialist utopia.

I thought I would show some pictures of what some if the canyons look like, that are close to Salt Lake City (Big Cottonwood canyon & Little cottonwood canyon & Immigration canyon, East canyon):

Salt Lake isn't perfect, but it has some great riding that is very very close.

Carbon, those canyon would really help me become a better climber!! Wouldn't be too bad to rip up and down, on my Ducati, too!!
