I currently weighing in at about 173lbs I run 110psi/front 115psi/rear I noticed lately on my set of custom wheels that at higher speeds(say 30 plus) I guess it kind of feels like a flat spot on the tire or you feel more of the road thru the front wheel. Checked everything and looks fine it's a brand new tire continental GP4000s. Is it possible that it is a lighter wheelset and it is something I need to get used to? On the flats it is smooth as could be, They have been chipping and tarring alot of my riding loops so that may make a difference. I am thinking I am getting bouncing sensation maybe I should lower my pressure a little. Thoughts appreciated let me know what pressure you are riding for your weight.

I'm 181 these days. I ride with 100 front and rear and have for years without pinch flat problems. I bought some of the new, wider rims this year (Velocity A23 in my case) and those seem to work better with 90 pounds, although they feel a little springy at times.

I'm 85 kgs or 187lbs..

90-95 front and 100-105 rear depending on the temp and weather..

Read this...

These guys are beardos but beardos and weight weenies have a lot more in common that you could imagine..

If the road is rough, you'll be just as fast at lower pressures and a whole lot more comfortable. My typical loop is quite rough and just this year I did some experimenting with pressures. I went from 120 ft/rr to 75 ft/90 rr with no measurable loss of speed and a dramatic increase in comfort. My tires are gatorskin hardshells 25mm and I weigh 82kg.

All of my "racing" clinchers (23, 25, 28mm) are inflated to 100 psi front and rear. I am 190 pounds. Variety of rims. Variety of tires. Conti Grand Prix 4 Season, Gatorskin, Vittoria Open Corsa. Never have pinch flats. The wider 35mm clincher tires are usually at 75 psi.

You need to tell us what wheels you are comparing (spoke count, width, and other factors will all make a difference n ho w a wheel "feels"), you also need to tell us what size tires you are using....assuming you have same tires and tubes mounted on both wheels (otherwise you are comparing apples to oranges).

trust me tire pressure and more importantly way to much tire pressure will effect the ride more that the details of the wheel build

You can have a weighting / wheel balance issue if you're feeling the same type of vibe in a very repeated way, If the wheel is built out of round, you'll also get the sensation you have.

In either case (or in most cases), getting feeback from a bunch of people on their pref'd tire pressure is pretty damn useless. Relieving the symptom isn't fixing the problem.


A proper fix would be to add counter balance or get re-strung to round.

I think I have it figured out, I may have had a bad tire. I switched it out and did a short ride and did not notice the problem.
