enve 6/7 SES wheelset won. best braking surface/best aero.

interesting the ZIPP refused to send a wheelset to be tested.

hmm-mm. maybe a redesigned 404 firecrest v2.0 is coming out this fall.

Just got some 6.7 clinchers with alchemy hubs and really like them. Also have 404 FCs and there is no comparison.

Interesting to note how well the Bontragers did.
They seem to be an underrated (less cachet?) set of wheels with great qualities.

i wonder why zipp refused. i think ive only seen them do that when they disagreed with the testing protocol? might be thinking of a different company though.

What I will add to this thread is that the Bontragers are a much better value. They are built around the Dt Swiss 180 ceramic hubs,take a look at the retail on those hubs. The hub shells are carbon and are using the straight pull spokes which DtSwiss is now incorporating this year with the new hubs. The wheels roll so smooth and it seems the faster you go, the easier they roll. Right now I have been using the Aeolus 3 D3 and the Aeolus 5 and they are wicked fast and climb like a climbers w__ dream. They came in under the advertised weight.. rear 700 grams and the front 520. So by far a better value and these wheels brake very well in dry conditions as I haven't had a chance in the rain yet.

I would never buy them outright, but if you were ordering a Trek and could get them spec'ed on it they do indeed seem quite a bargain wheelset.

Too bad Zipp wasn't in the test. Neither was Reynolds. I have been a happy user of a pair of custom built Reynolds DV46C circa 2007 w/ Tune Mig70 & Mag180 hubs using sapim cx-rays.

The new Reynolds has better braking surface and a swirl lip generator. This in my opinion is a huge advantage on reducing drag.

Zipp has their dimples.

I would have loved to see how Zipps, Reynolds fourty six and Easton (being more generic compared to zipp and Reynolds) stack against the high end Enve.

I agree, I have ridden low-end, mid-range and high-end Bontrager wheels and they have rolled well and smoothly, and the few problems I have had were taken care of quickly and with no questions asked.

Why is it the manufacturers resposibility to provide a set of wheels?

If the magazine really wanted to provide an unbiased test, they would have gone out and borrowed a pair, or bought some Zipps to include in the test.

Says more about the magazine and staff than it does about Zipp to me.

Consumer reports buys everything they test as a consumer and does their testing. The magazine should follow the same model .
