I normally use a few layers of electrical tape and it works fine. Have used strapping tape as well. I like the stans tape and if I can get a big roll of it labeled by the actual manufacturer I am all in.

The 3M cross weave tape, can you get it in less than 25mm width?

Seems like there are quite some interest here. I had been speaking to the local Tesa reseller few weeks back but I could not get enough interest from the local biking community to meet the minimum quantity. I could reopen talks with him if there are enough interest but price is about 8 euros per roll exclude shipping from Singapore. If you're keen, please indicate your interest here in this thread.
