It looks like its effect is only short term - which would mean mid-stage administration.

Assuming it requires a needle that is.

Limitation is dissociation of CO2 - not uptake of O2. :)

I would also say that markers for this would be dead easy to find at this stage. I could also see application for this in recovery rather than direct performance.

PFC does the job better, and is all but untraceable.

Musk3t - ummm... how do you know about these? Medical background? Biology background? Not just a snippet of knowledge the average joe has in his back pocket. Just interested.

A friend and I spent a great deal of time researching these/speculating about their use by certain professional who happened to come down with cancer about 12 years ago.

Illuminate, how did you theorise it's use for cyclists?

I remember the mrs talking about this at a conference about neo-natal re-sus but never occurred to me applications for cycling. Of course "The Abyss" was my first thought when I heard about it!

It's been used a lot in Italy. Most of the time it's only proven by finding actual samples, evidence of administration. I believe Petacchi was implicated with its use a wee while back.

My knowledge comes from a few varied backgrounds within pro sport, the law and generally keeping an ear open.
