Can I get away with just new shifters, rear der and cassette, chain? And keep the rest my old set up?

I was pondering the cost of the switch yesterday at Ribble.

Came up with:

Athena $403

Chorus $560

that's for levers, RD, Chorus cassette and KMC chain.
There's sometimes a buggy.
How many drivers does a buggy have?

One.

So let's just say I'm drivin' this buggy...

Yup. Keep in mind you can find a full 11 speed Chorus group for around $1,200.
Road bike: Cervelo R3, Campagnolo Chorus/Record mix...
Supercommuter: Jamis Renegade...
Oldie but goodie: De Rosa Professional Slx, Campagnolo C-Record...

With a minor modification, you don't need the RD.
