Doesn't look like a Sram XX rear derailleur - more like the old X.0. New prototype maybe :-)

Yeah - seems like you're right. Maybe some kind of "it's not about the equipment but the rider"-statement? :-D

Why is the back of his left calf blue? Is that tape?
For certain parts stiffer is more important than lighter.

old X0 ders are quite beefier than new XX. May be that's Nino's logic as well. Based on the scuffed calf & hip, the beefy derailleur is quite pertinent for an events like this :)

also looks to me that it's a 36cog cassete, so he might also be using some adopted shifters for old X0. i wonder what are those shifter? my so far experience with adopted shifters was poor... :(

It's a silver version of the type 2 X.0 10speed. If you zoom in on the picture you can se the clutch.

The type 2 with clutch prevents the chain from bouncing around as much as the XX derailleur.

Like the poste above me said, it prevents chain slap.

But Mads, you bike never gets out so the chain never slaps?

just got back from windham wc - lots of guys running the x.o type 2 rear derailleur. it was pretty common set up. now we gotta see if anyone runs the xx1. lot of single ring set ups already. have a feeling the 42 is too much extra for those guys.

Maybe racers don't need the range on some courses if they're doing well with 1x10 already. Another gear lets you have slightly closer spacings though which would certainly be desirable for some riders. I can definitely see 11 speed 'trickling' up or down into other XX/X9 level groups, even if it's not for a while still :noidea:
