hey can anyone tell me if these three frames are built the same? ie is paint the only difference? or is the R3 a lesser version of the R1 etc.

thanks in advance.

This is a little off topic but my first few rides on my then new 2011 R1 was awesome. Then I did some Vo2 max intervals and while seated mashing out the watts I felt like the bike was a noodle under me.....let's put it down to the wheels hey :)
It's not how much you spend on a bike it's how hard you can ride it.

There's only two versions of the frame. The R1 is made of HMX fibre and is about 100g lighter. tHe R2, and r3 are made of HMF fibre the same frame. R1 fork is slightly lighter too. I've ridden both and cannot tell a difference in stiffness or comfort.

I own a R1 2011 frame and my mate used an R2 frame. As far as I know the only difference is around 100g weight, stiffness is pretty much the same.

The R1 is NOT 100g's lighter as i first expected its actually at least 30-40g's heavier then the R2, i was not happy when i weighed them both, i spoke to scott about it being heavier and they baseicly said 'it may be heavier but its stiffer....'

i had the R2 and had to warrenty 2 framesets due to miss shaped rear dropouts

so they decided to upgrade me to the R1, first R1 had chipped paint, bubbles and splinter of carbon coming off fork dropout. the second R1 and the fourth frame overall is what im using now, oh and on the R2 you can see the lovely carbon thru the finish :)) on the R1 you can not :((((

I believe that the r1 might be a press fit.

What weights are you getting for what sizes?

I don't believe Addicts are made anymore, so you might be getting stock that was initially rejected...

My '09 R1 has a std BB, but was also offered with press fit BB. I don't know the options in '11.
Maybe the weight diff is related to the BB, headset, dog fang, etc?

it would be very strange if not stupid to give a customer with a frame failure nd second choice frame, i can't believe that would happen, at any warranty department ....but then again...

I don't know about bike frames, but it's 100% standard operating procedure in other industries to give customers "refurbished" product for their warranty returns.

Besides, if they aren't making Addicts any more, what are they going to give you? A CR1? Last I heard, Foils are back ordered and having their own QA/design issues.

i have never worked with scott, but when i was working in a bike shop (specialized, look,principia/isaac,ridley)
customers would get new frames, as in new, not refurbished, we had one pinarello, a steel one that got repaired...it toke those fella's about 8 months..but other than that always new frame's. with specialised if those felas wont have the same frame in stock they would give us an upgrade for free.

i went back went my iphone and the apple store store did offer me a "refurbished" phone but to be honest..that looked like a brandspanking new one to me..

dont know about scott, but if i imagine i wouldnt be to only ridder who would be very disappointed if i was to find out i would get a "refurbished" unit instead of a new one.i mean one would be disappointed with the faileure at first then ull be out of a bike for a bitt and have to pay the bikeshop for swapping frames...you would want a new one !

Ok, now you're adding another option to the mix as the bike in your pictures is very clearly an addict RC, which I thought was identical to the R1 except DI2. Regardless, sounds like they just repainted an R2 and sent it to you.
