Specialized Venge BB advice please
Moderator: robbosmans
Sorry if this has already been discussed. I've got the chance of a Specialized Venge with OSBB but it will clean me out financially, I would need to use my standard Sram Red chainset until I got the cash to purchase a specific BB30 one so has anyone used a

with any success.
I believe the Specialized OSBB is narrower than a standard BB30 so shims might also be required.
Any advice with regards to fitting the chainset would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dougan

You're golden. You just run the adapter and everything will work fine.
BB30, PF30, GXP, and Shimano cranks are all OK. Campy can be made to work, but it requires some special parts.

I found this on wheels manufacturing website........ now I am confused

Maybe I can help with the confusion. The Venge has a 61mm BB shell and uses a PF30 Bottom Bracket, the Wheels Mfg.
part numbers you would need are:
PF3.5-SPC
http://wheelsmfg.com/products/bottom-br ... pacer.html.
PF30-SRAM
http://wheelsmfg.com/products/bottom-br ... ranks.html.
The PF3.5-SPC adds the 7mm to the BB width to get to the standard 68mm. The PF30-SRAM adapters allow you to install a 24/22 GXP crank in the PF30 bearing with an inside dia. of 30mm. They also take up the space occupied by external bearing cups.

Actually, if you are using the Specialized cups and bearings all you need is the
BB30-Sram adapter
http://wheelsmfg.com/products/bottom-br ... -sram.html
The Specialized cups and bearings space the bearings to normal BB30 width.

Nope, I've tried this on my SL3. The BB30 adapters rub on the plastic cups in the frame. The lip on a BB30 bike is smaller and the adapters work just fine on my SL2 with BB30

two ways to fix the bb30 adapter rub- get a box cutter and drag it around the edge a couple times. delrin is very machinable. or use the pf30 adapter, which clears the cup a lot. specifically, use the pf30fsa adapter for sram, not the pf30sram adapter for sram, as sram's pf30 cups run their bearings further inboard than standard.

I think we should all drive out to Cal and punch whomever decided to not just use a normal PF30 shell on the Tarmac and Venge in the dick. Who's with me?
The kicker is, on the MTB side, they did in face go to a standard PF30 carbon shell a couple years back. Go figure.

If you are buying the Specialized crankset, it will come with everything that you need. (bearings, spacers, etc)
