1) buy RS80 wheelset
2) remove rear wheel hub and spokes
3) replace with powertap hub 20H and CX-rays.
4) == powertap wheelset with some nice rims.

Yeah I know it is only 20H, but will I be able to get as high tension as the original Shimano rear wheel to make it a durable set?

Seems like a lot of work. Are you trying to get a bargain ? Check Neuvation.com for good deals of powertap wheels.

And or just pick a rim and spokes and have your shop build it...

why buy a wheel and toss a hub...

Regardless of the tension, that is going to be a really soft wheel. Even in higher spoke counts Powertaps still build up soft (due to the flange spacing). I would say go 28 hole if your going to go through with this.

I am looking to use the new G3 hub which has a wider spacing, but not as wide original Shimano hub because of the J spokes.

Cheap powertaps at chainreactioncycles, sold out now but only 385 euro for a 20h Campagnolo Elite+ hub including joule computer is a killer deal of course.

Done that and its a great wheelset. I went for DA c50 wheels, in hindsight RS80 would have been more cost effective and virtually same weight, as a lot of the saving v's RS80 is in the rear hub. I deliberately went for dt comp spokes and it is plenty stiff enough (I'm 75kg). I went for the 2012 Pro Hub as the G3 does not support the yellow head unit.

All the Powertap deals at CRC have gone :(

I also have a RS80 c24 powertap pro+ wheelset, I think that has sapim cx-ray one side and it's fine.

I'm now planning a Stans Alpha + 2012 pro hub 20/24 hole wheelset. Should be sub 1,500g.

+ you will get >£50 for the ultegra hub or >£100 for the DA hub if you sell. My DA work of art hub is safe in a draw busy appreciating.

Why not just buy the RS80 rim? Ask you LBS to order you a spare rim (part number E-WHRIM2ARECC). If you want matching nipples, ask for Y-012 Z4076 (20x) for the red ones.

Just got some RS80 C24s from CRC at a deal, really choice wheelset......have the black nipples too (2012 model).

I think it is a great idea with the G3 hub.....keep us posted! :beerchug:

After findng the right sources Looks like the final cost of the RS80 wheelset is $1600, the G3 and CX Ray.
but remember the G3 is $1299 MSRP..
Building a set of Zipp 101 would be $1850.
Another perspective a prebuilt QBP/Handspun Zipp 101 rear wheel only with G3 is around $1360

Both cases wheelbuilder.com doing the work for the rear wheel and the front wheel is a factory issed.
Wheelbuilder said they have experience building them before..
