Preventing cable rub - what do you use?

There are loads of solutions out there, clear patches, carbon patches, little balls on the cables, rubber tubes on the cables, tiny rubber rings, the list goes on.

So what do you use, specifically (brand, source etc)? And why do you like them?

If it wasn't obvious on WW already, needs to be light, very subtle, and ultimately prevent paint from wearing away on your precious frame.

Just to clarify, I'm really talking about head tube area cable rub here.

Park tool pre-glued puncture repair patches. They last for years even with some very significant rubbing, weigh less than a gram and are fairly unobtrusive to the eye.

Heatshrink over the portion of housing that will (potentially) rub.
Colour of your choice.
Hard to beat the weight.

A clear tape. Costs what 20 cents, weights nothing.

Orings.. Super light, cheap and they don't look shit.
Any old #06 will do the job for shifters and brake cables
#03 instead of cable donuts under the top tube

I wonder why rubber rings (etc) rubbing against the frame does not leave a mark?
I vote for clear tape. I hope it does not filter UV.

Clear tape looks cheap, on black cables the orings totally disappear into the cables

I use SRAM cable protectors. Pack of 4 in black. Very descreet and they work.

I use Jagwire mini tube tops:

Works really well but you have to put them on when you are installing the housing.

They also have larger ones that snap onto the housing but those seem to leave rub marks for me, the mini tube tops do not.

Pace carbon proctector. It comes in a A4 sheet and you cut it up as needed. One purchace wil last a very long time.

I use O-rings but the Jagwire mini tube tops look really good!

Note that they come in either 4mm (gear cable) or 5mm (brake cable) versions, black or white.

Self sealing silicone tape, comes in clear and black and many colors and you don't need to remove the cables to slip it over like o-ring and heat shrink. Much less obtrusive than those tube top things...add as much or as little as you like.

Silicone fuel tubing for gas powered radio controlled vehicles.

Can be cut to desired length, is clear, very soft so does not mark paint and eliminates noise. Cheap too.
