I don't know the details of the changes, but I remember trying Gatorade when it first became popular. I absolutely hated it. It seemed very sweet and "syrupy".
Over the past few years, however, I have grown to absolutely love the stuff! It is like pure essence of "thirst-quench" to me. I think it has something to do with the salts that are included.

Yeah, it seems opposite to me also. Gatorade definitely has salts.

i also noticed last night
that Gatorade has reduced in size from the 32 ounce
now to 28 ounce with a slight bottle modification.

powerade has the higher magnesium amount over Gatorade.

i really want to see an old Gatorade ingredient label.

Actually have a bottle in front of me that I got just today. It just lists surcose and surcalose as another poster mentioned. No HFCS.

But I think the best thing to happen is that they finally realized people were watering down their over sugary drink for actual workouts. So they actually get more money by watering it down for us! I think you can still get the high calorie stuff, but the G2 is low cal (watered down) and what I prefer. The heavy concentrate stuff can be kept in the fridge and watered down for rides. Even if you were an active person, the high cal stuff is just too much.

The "bottled" Gatorade used to contain HFCS but they have switched back to sugar and dextrose which is a good thing. The powdered mix never used HFCS. If you want your mix less "sugary" just cut down the concentration by ~50%. There are too many carbs if you run it full strength anyhow. The low cal Gatorade (G2) also contains an artificial sweetener.
