how long is too long? [shipment question]
Moderators: robbosmans, Moderator Team
I bought something on here and paid for it on April 24th. It is an international shipment, but I have not received it yet. I used paypal so I'm not worried about getting my money back. I have received 2 tracking numbers, neither have worked. The seller continues to repond to emails albeit 4 days later. Im not sure what to make of the situation. I want to believe it shipped, but on the other hand the tracking numbers that track nothing make me nervous. My questions is about etiquette. How long do you guys wait before filing a paypal claim? Is it okay after a certain amount of time to get your money back, and tell the person if the stuff shows up that you will repay? I do not want to cheat anyone out of their money, but with faulty tracking numbers and a long wait I do not want to be cheated either.

It can take 3-4 weeks just to get from the US to Canada. Chill.

there's no excuse for not providing a working tracking number, they can test it themselves before giving it to you, something is not right
if they shipped it, they should be able to provide the number
if they can't, it suggests they have not shipped it and are stalling for time
tell them you want a valid tracking number in 24 hours or you will report it to paypal as suspected fraud

I strongly advice you to check the tracking not only with your national postal service but also with seller 's postal service. I've ordered a bottom bracket recently and the only info I could found was on GB's royal mail website , not my Polish one. I've waited for package from Canada for 6 weeks with no tracking and it eventually arrived safe and sound.
18' R5 coming soon...
I recently purchased an item from australia (april 24). Hasn't shown up yet. When I emailed the seller he said he had not used any tracking. It can take awhile though - I'll wait until it goes on 40 day from payment and then file a claim - hopefully it shows up by then. I can't wait to see what the actual postage was for a 25g item when captain d-bag charged me $20 for postage ( figured there'd be some kind of tracking for that price). He better hope they show up.

You only have a certain amount of time to file a complaint with paypal. he may be stalling long enough to get past that window.
I'm pretty sure it's 45 days for paypal, but you could probably check that very easily. If you use your credit card I believe they give you 60 days to file a claim, but that my vary w/ which bank you use.

I've just been stung by a fellow ww. Claiming to be out of the country, slow to respond yet I know he is in work. Get a paypal claim in quick. You can always cancel it if it doesn't turn up.

If it puts your mind at ease Australia Post sucks. I just sent a package from Oz to Italy. The item was ~100grams. Once boxed the complete package was under 250 grams. It cost me $30 with NO tracking. Rediculous. That was airmail so it should arrive in a couple of weeks. Perhaps your seller send it ground which can be 8 weeks. I'd advise you to open the paypal claim just before the allowed time period to do so expires. Then just leave it open for as long as possible to allow the package to turn up.

OP - you say this is an international shipment, but without naming either country.
Tracking across borders only works with UPS/Fedex type couriers. If it's a national postage service like USPS, then the tracking only works as far as the border. Was this mailed? Did you try the tracking numbers in the sellers country mail system?
