Hi,

I'm looking at picking up a second hand Cannondale Flash F1 bike to use for Xterra: http://heartlegsandlungs.tumblr.com/pos ... ble-xterra" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Any comments on whether buying a used race bike (with a fairly worn fork and drive train) at this price is a good idea? Seller is after $2200 NZ (roughly US$1820).

Any advice appreciated.

Specs and description:

Frame - Flash alloy SAVE BB30 with 1.5" Head tube
Forks - DT Swiss XRC100 (quite scuffed but has been assessed by DT-Swiss NZ and deemed structurally sound) With recently installed new stanchions and crown.
Crank set - SRAM XX
Gears - X.9 shifters...BRAND NEW. SRAM XX Front and rear derailleurs..Used condition (note: rear derailleur in Pic is not showing the XX derailleur that comes with the bike).
Brakes - 2012 Formula R1 w. aftermarket reach adjust and pad contact adjust.
Wheels - Custom Stans rims on DT hubs
Handle bars - Easton EA70
Seat post - Thompson masterpiece
Brand new seat, grips and stem.

Knowing what you do to a bike, is it really worth taking a risk on 2nd hand, unless you know the rider personally ?? If they've hucked it & damaged the frame it could end you up in a wheel chair.

Lefty and Hollowgrams are the best part of a Cannondale, this bike has neither. No way I would buy it.

Forks - DT Swiss XRC100

What's happened to the Lefty? IIRC F1s have always been specced with a Lefty, going back well before the Flash, and definitely 2010-12.
