Me too, I'm seriously considering the sportive event too. Anyone else also interested in a friendly ride?

Where is it, and does it have the odd upward slope lurking in the shadows?

Valkenburg, The Netherlands. Finish is about 1,5 km's after the Cauberg.

Do you suffer more when you train, or cannot train?

I am moving to the Netherlands in early September (Den Helder) but will spend 10 days or so in Brunssum for World's before starting my new job. We should have a WW-get-together. I met several Weenies in Geelong in 2010 which was really nice. We should do the same in Limburg.

Lately I've been wondering why I've never made the effort to go and attend a race while I live only about an hour's drive away from Belgium's classics arena. Anyway, it's never too late for a change. Let Valkenburg (I know, it's in The Netherlands) be the turning point 8)

If there's a WW-group ride I'll try to be there but it's kinda hard to give any guarantees.

Sounds like a plan! Makes the trip even more worthwhile :)

@ticou, you could try the nearby Eyserbosweg or Keutenberg. Those are usually hilly enough. :D

I plan on shipping my bike to our hotel ahead of time... or perhaps to the U.S. Embassy as I am moving on official business. Either way, I plan to have a bike with me. I am considering the sportive event, but would love to get out for a casual ride with any fellow weenies who might be interested.

Would any of the Dutch Weight Weenies be interested in coordinating a ride and some post-ride festivities?

I've got my lodging secured in Brunssum. As far as I can tell it's about 16 km to the start/finish area. Can any of the locals tell me if I'll be able to ride (with my family in tow) from Brunssum to the race? Or will I need to rent a car?

You can cycle anywhere (reasonably) safely over there, so if your family can do 16kms on a bike, just go for that.
Just make sure you don't put too many hills in the route ;)
