having sold the Turner Flux recently, I thought I would take on something a little more 'AM'. I still ride mostly flatland, so didn't want to go for something too extreme, so settled on the Yeti ASR5 as the ideal option. I steered away from the weight-weenie Carbon version on account of long-term durability, and went for a 2011 alloy frame which benefits from a 5-yr warranty.

The spec is mindful of weight, but also of strength & reliability. There is still plenty of scope to improve, but with a total build cost of just GBP1,900.00 (approx the retail cost of the frame only!!!), I think I have done okay.

Spec reads as follows (all brand new 2012 unless marked otherwise):-

2011 Yeti ASR5 Alloy frame - large
2011 Fox 32 RLC120 FIT 120mm 15mm axle
2011 Fox RP23 Boost Valve shock
2011 Cane Creek Double X / S3 headset (tapered) with new bearings
Truativ AKA stem (not light, but very strong) in 60mm and 80mm lengths (depending on where I am riding)
Raceface Turbine 685mm low-rise bars
Superstar bolt-on grips
Salsa bolt-up seat clamp
Rockshox Reverb 380mm 125mm 30.9 seatpost (2012 model) with lh-lever upside down on right side
2011 WTB Silverado anniversary saddle
Stans Arch EX (white) rims on Hope Pro II Evo hubs with black DT Comp spokes (conventional pull)
Deore XT rear QR
Formula RX brakes
Alligator Windcutter 180mm/160mm white rotors
Ashima alloy rotor bolts
2011 Shimano Deore XTR Shadow rear-mech
2011 Shimano Deore XT 11-32 cassette
2011 Sram chain
2011 Shimano Deore XT triple chainset and bottom bracket
KCNC chainring bolts
2011 Shimano Deore XT front mech
2011 Shimano SLX STI shifters (without windows)
Shimano 540 SPD's
Schwalbe Ro-Ro 2.25" front / Ra-Ra 2.25" rear - both Pacestar Evo and running Stans tubeless system
